We’re passionate about getting kids active, in the school gym and on the ice!
Egg Farmers Rocks & Rings presented by Curling Canada introduces students to the sport of curling in their school gym, while Curling 101 invites them to step on the ice and experience the sport for themselves.
The Halifax Curling Club kicked off their 2019/20 season by hosting a Curling 101 that saw 60 elementary school students participate. The students, who had received Egg Farmers Rocks & Rings presented by Curling Canada programming in their schools, loved their first on-ice curling experience!
Little ones were amazed as they stepped on the ice for the first time with a slider. They laughed and giggled when they realized how slippery their foot had become and shared their excitement with their parents. Students also loved learning the sport and couldn’t help but smile when they slid out of the hack correctly.
When we asked the facilitators at the Halifax Curling Club why they enjoyed hosting a Curling 101, they said the best part was “being able to be part of the kids’ first experience on the ice and introducing them to the love of curling.” Another instructor shared that “the best part was having so many brand new curlers in one place [and] so many people trying the sport for the first time. It was amazing to see the turnout and great to hear how interested the children were in trying [curling].”
Overall, kids loved all aspects of the Curling 101 at the Halifax Curling Club, even cleaning their shoes before heading out to the ice! We’re excited to see these young curlers continue playing as many participants signed up for the junior curling program.
