Lacey was first introduced to curling when her Brownie group was visited by Rocks & Rings a few years ago. As part of the Rocks & Rings Curling 101 program Lacey was invited to try curling on ice after her session. The Rocks & Rings Curling 101 program introduces participants and their parents to the fundamentals of the winter sport in a local curling club after their school session.
Lacey was excited to try a new sport, saying “ I loved the way curling worked when our instructor was explaining it and it got me very excited about trying it out on ice.”
Lacey and her family attended an on ice learn to curl at the Stroud Curling Club the next Saturday. Lacey tried curling on ice for the first time and instantly fell in love, “I loved it as soon as I got on to the ice.” Lacey says the coaches were friendly and experienced, inspiring her to stick with the sport.
Lacey also brought her older sister to the curling club and they both have now been curling for three years. Lacey not only curls in the Little Rock program but is competing in bonspiels throughout the area. The girls have also played a few times as a family at special events.
Lacey credits Rocks & Rings for getting her into this great winter sport, saying “I am so glad they have that program and I am thankful that they got me started in curling. I love curling so much.”
