What’s better than a session of Rocks & Rings in gym class? A Rocks & Rings tournament day that gets the whole school involved in the friendly competition! In fall 2017 we launched Rocks & Rings tournaments to a great response. This spring we hosted the largest tournament yet, one featuring 800 students! We teamed up with the Simcoe District School Board to bring curling to grade 2 and 3 students.
Students began to file into the gym with their classmates and you could feel the buzz. Sorted into teams of 4, students matched up against other schools, ready to compete.
Each session began with a quick introduction to the sport of curling where Stroud Curling Club youth curlers helped demonstrate how to use the FloorCurl equipment. The students got rocking immediately and cheers of excitement could be heard from around the gym.
We loved seeing students strategizing and discussing rock placements with their teams. The camaraderie was clear with students cheering on their teammates and applauded good shots from their opposition.
Our partners at Egg Farmers of Ontario joined us to support the students and even provided temporary tattoos and games for everyone to take home.
At the end of the day 800 students had tried curling, many for the first time. Interested in bringing a Rocks & Rings tournament to your school? Contact us at info@rocksandrings.com for more information.
