Recently, the Navan Curling Club sponsored a day of Egg Farmers Rocks & Rings presented by Curling Canada at a local elementary school. They were excited by the response from the children who loved Rocks & Rings and curling.
The Navan Curling Club was looking for ways to grow the sport of curling and recognized that engaging children to the sport was a key way to achieve this goal. The club’s active Little Rocks program gets children having fun curling. Navan Curling Club was looking for ways to broaden the reach of the program to children who are not already involved with curling.
When they learned that their local elementary school, Heritage Public School, did not have the financial resources to bring in Rocks & Rings, they felt that it was the perfect opportunity to contribute by sponsoring the program.
Rocks & Rings was a huge success at Heritage Public School with approximately 200 children from grades 2-8 participating throughout the day. The kids were full of enthusiasm the whole day and loved engaging with the activities.
George, from Navan Curling Club, commended the instructor’s role in introducing students to the basics of the game and giving them an understanding of the game as whole while they played on the gymnasium floor. Many of the kids spoke about wanting to give curling on ice a try now too!
To continue to share curling with the students, the Navan Curling Club and Heritage Public School sent out information brochures about the curling club so that parents also have the opportunity to learn about the sport.
Club sponsorship of a day of Rocks & Rings is a great way for curling clubs to engage with their local community and get more kids interested in curling!
