Saturday, February 23rd, 2019 marked the inaugural Curling Day in Canada! We loved celebrating with our partners Curling Canada as we looked back on curling memories from every province and territory. Enjoy our nationwide curling story:
Former Rocks & Rings instructor Geoff Walker visited Mount Pearl Special Olympics to share #curling back in 2014. Athletes aged 10-60 enjoyed giving curling, one of @SpecialONL’s official sports, a try #CurlingDayInCanada pic.twitter.com/6e7zlfdXsf

.@peicurling shared a wonderful story for #CurlingDayinCanada. A grade 5 student convinced his parents to take him to a Curling 101 after enjoying Rocks & Rings. He has been #curling ever since. This season he’s been playing in funspiels with other youth his age. pic.twitter.com/CxtQ3pt39H

His parents shared that curling was the first activity he really enjoyed. Without Rocks & Rings (and support from @curlingcanada, @peicurling, and
Egg Farmers of PEI) he might not have discovered #curling! #CurlingDayinCanada— Rocks & Rings (@rocksandrings) February 23, 2019
In 2018 we reached 6 new regions in Nova Scotia! 4000 students received Rocks & Rings programming thanks to support from @CurlingCanada, @NSCurl and @EggFarmersofNS, with hundreds of them getting on the ice at their local club for a Curling 101 #CurlingDayinCanada pic.twitter.com/xKdRv3wY0j

During the draw to the button contest other students asked if they could try it “Kelly’s way” & push the rock with a broom! It made Kelly feel so special to have everyone in the class pushing their rocks with their broom. At the end Kelly shared that she “really liked #curling!”

Our instructors are a lot of fun, but maybe not as much fun as @CanadiensMTL mascot Youppi! Youppi turned in his skates for a curling broom at a @CTJumpstart #JumpstartGames event in Montreal. We’d love to see him get on the #curling ice for #CurlingDayinCanada! pic.twitter.com/gk7oNtTCdz

When we reached the one million student milestone we celebrated at the Brier in ON. Students from Ottawa were Rocks & Rings participants number 1,000,000 & 1,000,001. We look forward to celebrating 2,000,000 students in the near future! #CurlingDayinCanada @CurlON_ @GetCracking pic.twitter.com/HJX1EQp6BY

Rocks & Rings Tournaments began in Manitoba. For #CurlingDayInCanada we’re looking back at the first tournament which included fun with @curlmanitoba & @eggsmanitoba (& a visit from Liz Fyfe!). Tournaments are now available nationwide and bookable at https://t.co/nQUjwEvior ?? pic.twitter.com/4SHMLk3hbZ

It was the first time #curling for these kids as part of Summer Sports School. @CurlSASK shared curling with a few newcomers to Canada with Rocks & Rings in summer 2017. A great memory to share for #CurlingDayinCanada. pic.twitter.com/EyV1xcMsTo

Recently at the Alberta Women’s Scotties Rocks & Rings got student spectators involved with the sport. After watching a game students tried the sport for themselves. Maybe we’ll see them competing at a future Scotties or Brier event! #CurlingDayinCanada ?: @Mark_Taylor58 pic.twitter.com/dPngov9nd1

World Champion and BC native Kelly Scott loves her family and #curling. She combined both loves to bring a day of Rocks & Rings to her son Nash’s school. After curling in gym class Nash’s classmates joined him on the ice for more curling fun! #CurlingDayinCanada pic.twitter.com/I5fbmhVWAz

Instructor Whitney travelled to the Yukon in 2016 and shared her love of #curling with more than 500 students. Following the in-school sessions students and their families came to Curling 101 at the Whitehorse Curling Club with 12 people joining on the spot! #CurlingDayinCanada pic.twitter.com/d5XTEFXYyk

In 2017 we headed to Northwest Territories! This stop completed our cross Country trek. Instructor Marie-Elaine snapped this selfie before sharing #curling with local students. Special thanks to @polaregg for supporting curling in the North #CurlingDayinCanada pic.twitter.com/WEVH83LOfo

In 2012 Instructor Whitney travelled to Nunavut where Rocks & Rings visited 3 schools in Baker Lake and Rankin Inlet. The students loved the program & welcomed Whitney with open arms.
