Our partners at PEI Curling shared with us a wonderful story about a young man, Connor, falling in love with the sport of curling through a Rocks & Rings visit and a Curling 101 session.
We reached out to Connor’s family to learn how Connor found his new favourite sport. In fall 2016 Egg Farmers Rocks & Rings presented by Curling Canada visited Connor’s school. His parents decided to go to the Curling 101 try curling event since Connor seemed to enjoy his in school visit.
Connor was nervous at first (he’s not one for skating) but really enjoyed his experience and decided he wanted to try the Little Rocks program. Connor’s parents were excited that he had found a sport that interested him as he had tried a few that he didn’t love. Curling was a way for Connor to socialize and enjoy himself.
For the past two years Connor has been curling 3 times a week. This year he joined a team of four boys and they have been competing in local bonspiels. The team is now looking for a permanent coach for next year as they would like to become more competitive.
Connor’s mother says “They have been working really well together and it is great to see how much they all love the sport and how much they have learned just this year.”
When he’s not on the ice Connor also enjoys watching curling on tv. We’re sure he was cheering on PEI’s Team Birt at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts and Team Likely at the Tim Hortons Brier!
