2017/2018 was a huge year for the Egg Farmers Rocks & Rings presented by Curling Canada program! We enjoyed sharing curling with students across Canada and are excited to continue the fun this year. We’re highlighting some of our favourite moments of the year to relive the great memories!
We kicked off fall 2017 with one of the most exciting announcements of the year, the kick off of Rocks & Rings Tournaments! Rocks & Rings Tournaments are interactive curling bonspiels right in your school gym! Students compete with and against each other while learning curling terminology, scoring, and more. To launch this new program we enlisted two of the biggest stars in the game, Emma Miskew and Lisa Weagle from Team Homan, and our partners at Egg Farmers Ontario to join us.
After all the fun of our tournaments launch, we were excited to take tournaments to the next level by hosting the largest tournament ever! In March 2018 800 Simcoe District School Board students had a rocking time curling with their classmates against other schools in their board.
Rocks & Rings took a journey north this year as well, bringing curling to students in Arctic Bay, Nunavut. Their teacher Greg fell in love with curling in Ontario and wanted to bring the sport to his students in Nunavut. Rocks & Rings, using FloorCurl equipment, was a perfect fit for the physical education program in this school of 200. FloorCurl equipment is easy to store and very portable, meaning that the whole school community can enjoy the sport in the school gym.
An Olympic year is always in an exciting year! As part of the winter games fun, Rocks & Rings was a part of exciting celebrations with our Olympians.
The 2017/2018 school year was also full of fun with visits to the Canadian Tire Jumpstart Games. Canadian Tire Jumpstart’s program is dedicated to providing opportunities in sport for all children in Canada. We were happy to join them in cities across from Canada to share curling with students and Canadian paralympians and olympians.
What a year! We’re excited to continue the curling fun this school year. We can’t wait to get rocking with you!
