Instructor Daryl is one of our energetic and thoughtful instructors, sharing the sport of curling with students in Lower Mainland/Vancouver, BC.
Daryl brought his camera along for a day of instructing to share a glimpse of the amazing work our instructors do and share his experience as an instructor. Watch below:
Q: What’s your favourite moment as a Rocks & Rings instructor?
It’s happened a few times. A child is struggling with shooting the rocks and getting discouraged. A little coaching and encouragement, they make a shot to the button, the smile I see is all I need.
Q: Why do you think it’s important to teach students a new sport?
I recall being introduced to many sports when I was younger. It’s important to stay active and curling with Rocks & Rings is a way to help kids discover a new sport. And this discovery may spark a lifetime of participation.
Q: What’s the best part of being a Rocks & Rings instructor?
Listening to the laughter, the excitement, sounds of the rolling rocks, the smashing of the takeouts, the thank yous. And then hearing how excited the kids are that I’m returning for more curling fun.
And of course, to shout out our egg farmer partners, we asked Daryl what his favourite egg dish is. His response? “Fried egg. Over Easy. No TV show cooking creation, just into the frying pan and out.”
Thank you, Daryl, for sharing smiles and curling with BC students.
